Labiaplasty Sydney | DOVE Labiaplasty Surgery by Dr Georgina Konrat

A published, risk reduction method developed by Dr Konrat to improve comfort, balance, and natural proportion.

The DOVE Labiaplasty (Double Offset V-Plasty with Extended De-epithelialisation) is Dr Georgina Konrat's published approach to labiaplasty.

It uses fine, superficial dissection to protect blood flow and nerve pathways, helping to reduce visible scarring and support normal sensation.

The procedure is performed by Dr Konrat and her all-female team at accredited Sydney day hospitals.

Before You Decide

Every surgical procedure carries some risk, and labiaplasty is no different. Understanding what's involved helps you make an informed, confident choice.

General surgical risks include:

(may vary between individuals)

  • Bleeding or haematoma (blood collecting under the skin)
  • Infection requiring antibiotics or additional care
  • Wound separation or delayed healing
  • Scarring or thickened scar tissue that may not fade as expected
  • Temporary or altered sensation (numbness or increased sensitivity)
  • Asymmetry between sides that may require revision
  • Dissatisfaction with aesthetic outcome
  • Rarely, the need for further surgery

Risks specific to labiaplasty include:

  • Over- or under-correction: Removing too much or too little tissue can affect both comfort and appearance. The DOVE labiaplasty uses conservative reshaping and tissue reduction to help reduce risks.
  • Temporary changes in sensation: Mild numbness or increased sensitivity are common during healing and usually settle within a few months.
  • Discomfort during intimacy: Occasionally, scar tissue or tightness may cause tenderness.
  • Visible scarring: All surgery leaves scars, but the DOVE Labiaplasty surgery aims to keep them discreet through fine, superficial incisions.

What is a Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a procedure that reshapes and reduces the labia minora or labia majora, the inner or outer folds of skin around the vaginal opening. Some women choose labiaplasty to relieve physical discomfort from friction or clothing, while others notice changes after childbirth, weight fluctuations, or ageing that affect how they feel and function day to day.

It's important to know that almost all labia are normal. There's a wide range of natural variation in size, shape, and symmetry, none of which means there's anything medically wrong.

Choosing surgery is a personal decision. It's about your comfort, your symptoms, and what feels right for you, not about meeting an ideal or comparing yourself to anyone else.

Why Some Women Consider Labiaplasty

  • Chafing or irritation during running, cycling, or other physical activity
  • Discomfort when wearing fitted clothing, gym tights, or swimwear
  • Noticeable asymmetry between the left and right labia
  • Excess tissue that extends beyond the outer labia and causes rubbing or pulling
  • Changes after childbirth, weight loss, or ageing that affect comfort
  • Hygiene difficulties due to deeper skin folds
  • Personal aesthetic preference

What is DOVE Labiaplasty Surgery?

The DOVE Labiaplasty is Dr Georgina Konrat's own published approach to labiaplasty.

She developed it in 2005 to create a more personalised method, one that protects blood flow, preserves normal sensation, and promotes healing by reducing risks and complications. The technique was later published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal in 2012 and is performed exclusively by Dr Konrat and her all-female team at Double Bay Day Hospital, an accredited Sydney facility.

DOVE stands for Double Offset V-Plasty with Extended De-epithelialisation, a mouthful that simply means the procedure focuses on reshaping and reconstruction rather than removing large sections of tissue, keeping as much healthy tissue as possible.

Comparing Labiaplasty Techniques

Trim Technique

Removes tissue along the outer edge of the labia minora. It shortens length but leaves a fine scar on the edge and doesn't address clitoral-hood or perineal concerns.

Wedge Technique

Removes a small wedge-shaped section from the centre of the labia while keeping the natural edge. It can preserve colour and texture, but because it removes the full tissue thickness, it may affect blood flow and healing.

DOVE Labiaplasty

Completely tailored to your anatomy. It uses a meticulous, superficial dissection to reshape and reduce the labia minora and, if needed, reshape the clitoral hood or perineum for a balanced result. Because it works within the upper tissue layers, it helps preserve blood supply and nerve pathways.

Which technique is right for you?

That depends on your anatomy and your goals. During your consultation, Dr Konrat will examine the area and explain which approach best suits your situation. In some cases, additional procedures such as mons pubis liposuction may be suggested to create balanced proportions between the lower abdomen and genital area.

Am I a Candidate for Labiaplasty?

Most healthy women over 18 can be considered for labiaplasty using the DOVE labiaplasty surgery, as long as expectations are realistic and there are no medical issues that might affect healing.

You might be a good candidate if you:

  • Experience discomfort or friction during exercise, cycling, or daily activities
  • Have ongoing irritation, infection or hygiene difficulties
  • Notice changes in labial size, shape, or symmetry after childbirth or weight changes
  • Have had a previous labiaplasty and still have unresolved concerns

General Eligibility

Over 18 years old

In good overall health (no active infections or untreated conditions)

Non-smoker or willing to pause smoking before and after surgery

Not pregnant or breastfeeding

Able to rest, follow aftercare instructions, and allow time off for recovery

For Women Under 18

Cosmetic labiaplasty isn't usually recommended for patients under 18. In cases where it's considered for medical reasons, AHPRA requires a three-month cooling-off period and an independent psychological assessment before surgery can go ahead.

How is the DOVE Labiaplasty Surgery Performed?

The DOVE labiaplasty surgery is a day procedure performed at Double Bay Day Hospital, an accredited Sydney facility.

Anaesthesia & Setting

  • Long acting local anaesthetic with light sedation, or general anaesthetic which is performed by a specialist anaesthetist
  • Procedure time: usually 90–120 minutes, depending on your anatomy and whether any additional adjustments are made
  • Home the same day after a short rest in recovery

What Happens During Surgery

1

Assessment & Marking

Before surgery begins, Dr Konrat carefully marks the area while you're awake to guide the adjustments based on your consultation plan.

2

Anaesthesia

You'll receive local anaesthetic and light sedation, so you stay comfortable throughout the procedure. Where medically required: general anaesthetic administered by a specialist anaesthetist.

3

Tissue Reshaping and Reduction or Reconstruction

Using the DOVE labiaplasty surgery, Dr Konrat gently reshapes excess tissue while preserving blood flow and nerve pathways. If needed, the clitoral hood or perineum can be reshaped at the same time for balance and comfort.

4

Fine Closure

Dissolvable stitches are used, which will naturally dissolve over the coming weeks as you heal.

5

Recovery Before You Go Home

You'll spend about one to two hours in the recovery suite under nursing supervision before heading home. Because you've had sedation, a responsible adult will need to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours.

What Results Can I Expect After Labiaplasty?

The goal of the DOVE labiaplasty is to relieve physical discomfort, restore balance, and maintain natural sensation. Every woman's results are a little different.

You may notice:

  • Less rubbing or discomfort during exercise or intimacy
  • Clothing that fits and feels more comfortable
  • A more balanced appearance between both sides
  • Normal sensation preserved, thanks to the nerve-sparing design

Recovery Timeline

First 48 Hours

Rest at home and keep activity to a minimum. Swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort are normal. Use cool compresses over clothing and take your prescribed medication as directed.

Week 1

Swelling and discomfort usually start to ease. Avoid heavy lifting, tight clothing, or strenuous activity. Gentle walking helps with circulation and healing.

Weeks 2–3

Early healing continues. Light movement or gentle exercise can often resume if advised by Dr Konrat. Some stitches are removed during week 3-4. Avoid swimming, tampons, and sexual activity for now.

Week 6

Most swelling has resolved, and you can usually return to full activities, including exercise and intimacy, once cleared by Dr Konrat.

3–6 Months

This is the final healing stage. The tissue softens, sensation normalises, and scars continue to fade. Most women see their final results around the six-month mark.

Scarring

All surgery leaves scars, but the DOVE labiaplasty is designed to make them as discreet as possible. Because it uses fine, superficial incisions, scarring is usually minimal. Over six to twelve months, these faint lines fade and blend with the surrounding skin.

How Much Does a Labiaplasty Cost?
